By cello/violin/viola/upright standards, that's not terribly expensive.

Thank the gods I chose guitar instead.

Yeesh, pricey. I'm sure it would sound great, but $13K is one hell of a markup. For that much, it better come with a beer-dispensing Salma Hayek who blows me on command every time a Low E is plucked.

Those guys were on how it's made I believe.

Would your cello look like this if it spent two weeks under water?

That is what happened to the cello of Kaaren Makas, (37 years principal cello, New Orleans Philharmonic, Emeritus principal, Louisianna Philharmonic) when Hurricane Katrina came through New Orleans. Sadly the cello was one of the few things that survived the flood waters in Kaaren’s house. It needed new strings and bridge and soundpost, but is now as good as new and living in Mississippi. Our hearts go out to all who’ve lost so much.
wow.

They should have molded the body like Salma Hayek`s body. I`d probably consider buying one then

Everything should be molded like Salma Hayek.

This is interesting, I would have thought that the carbon fiber top would actually have a negative effect on tone. I'm used to spruce or a similar soft wood for instruments like that.

The bass had twice the volume of a wooden UB, and still retains the woody sound. The main thing I noticed was how balanced the sting projection/volume was. That is the tricky part to dial in on wooden UB`s, as they often require mixing different string brands to get the balance right.
