I brought my Washburn over to my tech's yesterday and he told me that the guitar is coming up on becoming "beach-only". It's by no means a high end model, and has done me well so far.
I am going to be looking at acoustic-electrics at the sub-$1K range, and he made suggestions of Seagull and Larrivee guitars. I've emailed him some company links and found a few models on the Toronto CL.
My main things are just a decent onboard system and more upper fret access doesn't hurt. We had an acoustic band practice in prep for our first ever acoustic set at a FreeFM event, and it was awesome! It also made me realize that it's damn hard for me to play a less intense lead for one of our songs . If it proves to make more sense to get a nicer guitar without a cutaway, I'll go that route.
What acoustic guitars are you guys rocking? Do you gig with them?
My current acoustic is a Washburn S20J solid-top. The main thing I like about it is the neck profile is closer to an electric guitar, which makes playing it easier. I will be trying a boatload of acoustics out with the bandmates and hopefully my tech as well .
I'm punishing (someone could take that literally) my Tanglewood TRD-CE. I'm all happy about it, cost it about 450 euros, and plays exceptionally well for what I tried out comparing to others. More of an "open" sound, and the onboard electronics do just fine with me. Tuner works good, too, so I'm ready to recommend it to anyone.
But, everything has it's downsides: I'm having some fret buzz at the neck joint, this is something new, came this winter so might be the humidity. Will have to check it out.
