One more photo, this one showing the natural edge binding and black sides/back.

I've not had stupendous luck with Ibanez, but virtually the entire world of metal guitarists gets hard-ons for them. Go figure.

You're not the only one to be disappointed by Carvin guitars. This guy, for instance, has very little good to say about them, though he does offer a somewhat backhanded compliment for the potential they hold.

I respect everyone's views on the matter, and I have no doubt that Carvin has put out some dogs along the way, like pretty much every guitar company in the world. I am just thankful that my CT6 and CT624 both turned out to be great guitars. Then again, for all I know, you and joesatch would both call my Carvins lifeless pieces of dead wood.

That looks great, is the natural binding edge a standard option?

Yeah, natural binding edge is standard on all CT6x style guitars. As is a flame or quilted maple cap.

Well, like I said I know many here have had great luck with them here, you included. I'm not saying that you're imagining things.

And the only reason I actually went through the trouble of even trying them multiple times was due to their potential. The last one I had played great and sounded really good too. But clearly I've got no luck with them, so I'll leave them to everyone else.

Ibanez blows now too, if you were making a reference to my main guitar, which is now 10 years old.

EDIT

Oh I see, Joesatch is that guy's username.

Ironically I just played a CT4 (used, of course) at my buddy's shop a week ago or so, when I picked up my strat and was mucking around with the Mini Recto. It sounded way better that the DC's, which is all I've bought. Much thicker; a lot of the common complaints about Carvin weren't there.

I didn't even notice that your main guitar was an Ibby. No, I was simply picking out a brand that is extremely popular, but which I've never been able to connect with. I like set-neck and neck-through designs with scale lengths 25" or less, which puts most, if not all, Ibbys out of the running for me. The only 25.5" scale guitar I have ever managed to bond with is my Jackson SL2H (and it, at least, is neck-through).

If I could find an Ibanez like the new RG921 Prestige, but in solid black (rather than quilted red or blue), I might be tempted to give them another go. It's just that Ibanez has this gift for creating models I potentially like except for one or two things. Am I correct in believing that Ibanez has never made an RG-shaped HH guitar, solid black, with body, neck and headstock binding, non-arched top, non-bolt-on neck, and with an ebony fretboard? (Not to derail this Carvin thread, but I can't help but ask.)

It is a wee bit bracing to think that the only way to get what I really want is to spend $3500-4000 on a custom-built Daemoness Cimmerian. Once my car is paid off, I may have to start a Daemoness savings fund...

Just looking at the ebony requirement I'd have to say no. Ibanez hasn't made anything too tempting in nearly 10 years, and their move from heavily MIJ to MII is disconcerting.

If you want a bolt on neck guitar for about what a good MIJ Ibanez would cost (or less), get an MIJ Charvel or build a Warmoth. If you want a good set neck guitar, stick with what you're doing, or give PRS SE's a shot.

I have a PRS SE, and it is pretty nifty, especially considering I only paid $265 for it (used). Heck, I even have a PRS Custom 24 that is very similar, cosmetically, to my new Carvin. But PRS doesn't make any guitars with a body with the kind of pointed longhorns found on the Ibby RGs and the Cimmerian (nor does Warmoth for that matter).

If Ibanez ever licensed out their shapes to Warmoth, I would be so damn happy. But it won't happen, unfortunately.
