Default D'Addario Silk and Steel acoustic strings

D'Addario Strings : Silk & Steel : EJ40 Silk & Steel Folk, 11-47

Anybody here tried these? I'm not really happy with the current sound and feel of my acoustic. These seem interesting.

The guitar is a bit too bright, and also sucks for fingerstyle at the moment.

fuck them. The only thing theyre good for (IMO) is for easing new players in, before they slaughter their fingers.

I used to use them all the time. Felt really smooth and tension seemed really low for bends. But not a bright sound. If your looking to make your guitar less bright I would give them a try.
after seeing maxes reply I forgot to add I used them when I just started playing.

Hmm.

I am trying to get back into acoustic playing for a long time of not touching it. As a result, the muscles I use in acoustic playing have weakened and my fingerpicking abilities have fallen south.

I'm working on a new musical venture that will involve more acoustic work along with electric work, and it also looks like I'll be handling vocals too (totally fucking new to this, still nervous). One of the guys I'm playing with has been practicing fingerpicking and slide playing a lot recently, and he's gotten pretty good at both.

These work better for the folk style, since they knock a lot of the top end off the wound strings, but they sound dull for pretty much anything else. Do NOT use them with a piezo, either, since there isn't enough mass in the wound strings to drive the pickup, resulting in a wildly unbalanced sound. It's particularly humorous with a 12-string.

Good call there. I wouldn't be against a folksy sound, but it probably wouldn't be right for this. Country/rock sounds would probably be more suited to the music. We've got one song so far derived from this fingerpicked thing my buddy came up with. It's neat, a blending of his influences from Led Zeppelin/Allman Brothers/Alice In Chains.

Knocking the high end down a bit is important though because it's a bright acoustic. Alvarez is the brand.

Grab a set of Martins, since they're warmer than D'addario, and break in really quick. After about a week, they sound dull on my guitars, which should be perfect for you.

My acoustic is basically this one, I'll have to verify the model number when I get home. It definitely didn't spend $1500 on it though!

It's a nice acoustic for sure, but over time its brightness has started to bother me.
