You could also try the Deluxe Locking bridge from Fender. It's essentially a Floyd without the fine tuners. I believe when it first came out, it was "Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents" which of course, Fender now owns.

well, Noodle's suggestion on using the guitar's existing system was actually a good idea - I don't know why it didn't occur to me.

i basically loosened the trem springs a bit (i had them tight, pretty much nailing the bridge to the body), screwed a bar in, and now i can practice grabbing the bar for these dave murray dive bar dumps... and the bridge will return to zero every time (against the body).... how the strings behave through the nut... that's a different story. so far so good - i have some planet wave trim locks in there so there's minimal string winding interferring on the other side of the plastic nut.

Run a graphite pencil along the nut slots with every string change. This will keep them lubricated, so the strings will not bind in the nut. I'm assuming your tuning machines are staggered, which enables you to lose the string trees.
