When done correctly I like them, but I prefer standard fretboards personally. I do like the tonal difference and being able to really grab the note, but it's just not for me. I think everyone should try it though, I know some people who REALLY love them.

The only one I ever played was one of these at a guitar center. the Scallops are 20-24 But it was pretty cool. Ibanez.com | Electric Guitars | JEM7V

I played a custom Ibanez S that was scalloped from 12-24. I seem to recall it being pretty cool but I'd like to play another one. I'm thinking about getting the neck on a project guitar scalloped but I want to play one more scalloped guitar first to make sure I want to do it.

Someone posted a vid of Vai here and it looked like he had a fully scalloped neck It was a recent vid. Maybe that's something new for him.

Intuitively I would assume that scalloping 12-24 makes it easier to play chords down lower and then get the full effect of the scalloping up higher for mad solos but I know you can play chords just fine on a scalloped neck so it shouldn't matter.

i've played a few, and scalloped a few of my own boards, and its fun to play on. I don't think i would ever do it, or have it done to one of my main players, though.

its a bit stressful on the fingers, for lack of a better way to describe it. i felt that it was really noticeably missing wood underneath my fingers, and had trouble getting over that.

it may have just been a mental thing for me, but i couldn't play the same on them.

fun as crap to play on, but HARD to get used to.

Me too. Though i've always been scared i'd like it a Lot and want to scallop all of my guitars....which would be expensive.

Hahaha yeah! I have that exact same problem. I almost don't want to like it!
I guess when the Loomis arrives it will give me a bit of a 'simulation' of a scallop, as the frets are so damn huge.
