Yea, theres nothing wrong with it, but i think it would fuck with me too. But it really looks like a cool build. I like the nut and bridge.

Believe me, it's a nice feature. The distance from the strings to the body between the pickups is approximately 7 mm (0.28") which is more than enough, even for aggressive riff picking.

Don't know about your playing style but I play with only a tiny tip of the pick, maybe 1-1.5 mm of the pick being exposed, so the 7 mm space is okay.
