Hi everyone, I used to be a big metalhead and used to play in a couple of bands. I'm rediscovering my love for metal more every day, so I'd like to start playing again, which means obviously I need a cheap guitar to get me going. I have a limited knowledge of what to look for in terms of wood, etc. I'm going mainly on looks and brand...
So I've got some links to a few I've found in my price range (obviously cheaper is better if it isn't sacrificing quality too much), if I could get some opinions on them that'd be great, and other recommendations.
Dean Vendetta XM (Trans Black)
Ibanez GRGR121EX-BKN (Black Night)
SGR by Schecter 006 (Midnight Satin Black)
Kramer Assault 220 (Red Blackburst)
Last one is a bit over my budget but seems pretty decent.
I'd say forget all of those. Find an old Yamaha Pacifica 112 (the one's with the large pickguard with all the pickups on it), they go for ~£70 on Ebay. Actually, here's one on there now. They are absolutely brilliant guitars, I've owned 3. And the money you save can go towards a 2 humbucker pickguard and a pair of used humbuckers. Not that there's a lot wrong with the standard pickups. They certainly passable and capable of doing metal.
I really cannot stress how much of a bang for your buck guitar these are, absolutely nothing touches them for value.
