I say go for it. They sound a lot different than a regular Soloist. If you can't find an SLS3 at the right price, it might be worth picking up one of the earlier SLSMGs with the passive EMGs. You can burn the EMG-Hzs in a nice fire ritual and then install real pickups.

As an old Les Paul Custom guy, the block inlays were an immediate hit with me, even though they're a little blingy.

I'm going to print this out and show it to my wife in about six months.

Out of curiosity, with the newer SLSes, did they ever fix the issue with the strings hitting the back end of the TOM on the way to the ferrules? Mine has the TOM insanely high (which is very comfortable) but means that the strings hit the back end of the bridge pretty hard after coming off the saddles.

To be fair, I only had 3 NGDs in that time, and one was a trade (one in one out). I did have 2 NBDs though!

I'm at the office right now and can't check, but I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed. Other than the pickups and inlays, it's identical to an SLSMG. That's a problem on most TOMs with string-thru loading. TOMs work better with accompanying tailpieces, but nobody seems to want that on their superstrats.

It's definitely a neck angle/body arch issue on my SLS. And they've definitely changed the SLS design around subtly.

I've never had a string-through TOM that didn't do that.

Not in that aspect, apparently. This SLS has the same thing going on.

BTW, this thing nails a latter-day Santana lead tone.
