After a 2 and a half week wait of mail being lost, amongst other delays, it has finally bloody arrived!
Somehow the high B and high E got snapped Well, the high E was the only broken one, the B had just slipped out of the clamp at the bridge end. But besides that........ holy fuck.
This is very different to anything I've ever had before in so many ways, and I can see why people are put off by the neck. But I'm not, at all. It's different, yes, but I think people are perplexed by the unfamiliarity of it, more so than it being a difficult neck to play. Because it isn't, at all. It's very smooth, very fast, very comfortable, but very big.
Tone-wise; I have a set of Blackouts that I bought a week or so before ordering the guitar, and now I'm wondering whether it was worth it. I haven't done the comparison yet, I will do so later on today and make my mind up then, but the 707 really suits this guitar. I've had the 707 in other guitars and absolutely hated it. I've always preferred the 81-7, but I think that would be utterly overkill in this particular model.
It's incredibly defined and cutting but without being total ear-rape, and is balanced enough for me to switch from riffing on the low B to the low E, without it sounding like I've just turned on 10 tubescreamers.
The guitar feels great standing up, although sometimes it feels like the neck wants to go south. It feels as though the neck and body are of equal weight, so although there is no neck dive, the body doesn't exactly do it's job of keeping it upright. Then again, I have only had my PRS for the last 3 weeks, and that has body-dive if anything, it is so incredibly well-balanced so I'm probably too used to that.
I look forward to doing the comparison clips, and I'll post it up as soon as I've finished fucking about with pickups!
Looking forward to hearing clips of it, man. Was it brand new from a store? Looks in awesome condition.
