Below the 12th fret they are offset on the bass side.
12th fret is normal, something different to indicate the octave.
Above the 12th fret the inlays are on the treble side.
ESP puts their inlays on the bass side the whole way up. I think it would be more useful on the treble side above the 12th fret since that's probably where you're playing.
Also, I think it would look awesome and unique if it switched halfway up the neck like that.
