I just took delivery of this little bit of a guitar today. I've wanted a reverse headstock RG for ages, and this came up relatively cheaply, so I took the plunge. It's my second go with a Jaden product, and I have a couple of reservations about it, but I decided 'no pain, no gain'. Managed to grab a few shots before my camera battery died, including one of the guitar it'll go on.
Bit of history; this neck is from a complete JR custom 7 that Omrat over on SS.argh (thanks for that phrase, Josh ) got from Jaden (the headstock matches his body). When he got it, the neck needed a bit of work according to him (it needed straightening). He took it to a luthier in his native Estonia who sorted it out. He said it came back perfect but, after using it for a while, he found it too thin for his liking, so he got another made and flipped this on.
There are a couple of details about it that I'm not madly keen on, and this is the second time I've seen them in Jaden's work (and I've only seen this neck and my original JR RG7):
The frets aren't really gleaming. I kind of expect new frets to look pretty wow; these aren't. They're not exactly tarnished, but they're just not gleaming.
The truss route is about as narrow as it can be. It makes any adjustments quite a pain and unnecessarily slightly hair-raising.
There seems to be the odd bit of filler or something going on with the inlays and side-dots (worse on the sidedots, but my camera died before I could grab shots of them).
It's kind of grubby and not, again, shiny-new-looking. You can see the little bit of colour on the tip of the headstock, and there are some dark bits on the back of the neck.
It certainly feels pretty groovy, though, and I'm not unnecessarily bashing Jaden's work, just stating what I observed. Can't wait to get the other bits and get setting up. I'm looking for the hardware for it at the moment. Just got a quote of £115 for the machineheads, nutlock and string retainer. Caused a sharp in-take of breath. I'm hoping something on the secondhand market will turn up.
Because it has that flamed maple on the headstock (and I don't feel too bad about this as I don't think it's the finest specimen of flamed maple), I'm going to go all sacrilegious on your arses and cover it up with a matching sticker that the body it's going on has. It's just too radically different to look good otherwise, I think.
I like the grain of the fretboard quite a bit
And matching the headstock to the body will be
D-Sonic in the bridge? And what goes in the neck position?
