So lately I've noticed just about everyone in the world sets their springs for the floyd in a \|/ pattern. WHen mine was set up, it was put in the ||| pattern.
Are there advantages and disadvantages to both, or is one superior? I'd love to know, because if I can get more out of the V setup, it'll give me an excuse to mess around and restring my Jackson.
When you angle the outside springs, it stretches them more, increasing the tension. It's often hard to have enough travel on the claw screws to balance the bridge with three strings straight.
The tension increase is utterly negligible. It's like .25 lbs at most. I once calculated it using the pythagorean theorem and hooks law and cosines and all that shit.
