I've got RG550 GAS going on at the moment, and I'm looking for opinions on how the reissues stack up to the original 87' - '94 models. The reissues are attractive to me because I've got more chance of picking one up in good condition (I'm not looking for a big project) but if the originals are better then that is the way to go for me.
So those of you in the know, which one to buy?
For my money, the originals. A mates 87 550 is one of the best production guitars I've ever played, and I had an 89 560 for a while that was also superb. Wizard Is are a taste you either have or dont (I do) and Edge 1s hold up against all the top end FRs very well (they're better than OFRs imo).
Meanwhile I've encountered modern ones that were pants.
I think that manufacturing standards at fukushima were very high then and there was more attention payed to using decent and well quartersawn woods and such like. Plus, if the guitars held up well to now, you know its good.
