Hey guys! I have actually had this for a month or two now, but I've been lazy and had to get it set up properly before I wanted to make an NGD ( the previous owner played with the strings reversed).
-Quilt maple top
-Purple triple step stained
-5 piece maple neck with koa stripes
-Flamed maple fretboard
-Gloss finish on body and top of headstock
-tung oil back of neck
-Natural body binding
-Not painted on backside (Option 50)
The first thing that comes to my mind is that thing looks sooooo good! Carvin does spectacular finish work. And the bookmatching is perfect too!
They sound really good for what they are, but they are a bit too microphonic for me - every little touch on the guitar is noticable through the amp. So I decided to swap the bridge pickup with the BKP blackdog 8 I 've had laying around (since nobody is buying it), but I noticed immediately a huge difference in the definition on the low end. the pickup is a tad too low output for my taste and a little to toppy for this guitar, but sounds great. I will swap it out and try something like an aftermath.
I made a clip before and after the PU-swap:
All in all, I really like this guitar! I got it in a trade and I'm very happy with it! It looks great, plays fantastic and sounds great, even with the stock pickups.
I only have some iPhone photos right now, but I will take some better outside photos when the weather allows for it! But let it be said these pictures are not too bad for showing of the color!
Niice. Three thumbs up!
