    Universe discontinued?

I was just looking at SevenString a bit ago and saw a thread about the current Universe being discontinued. The poster said Rich on Jemsite said it was happening. I went to Jemsite but couldn't find any mention of this.

Anybody know what's going on? I'm not in the market for a new Universe but I'm just curious.

Won't mourn it's passing tbh. The UV777PBK version in production since ~03 was massively overpriced and massively underperforming for what you'd want for that money.

    Agree with Stitch.
Time to put that one away. Been around too long with no revamping, overpriced and in this economy--can't be selling enough to justify keeping it in the lineup.
Now, if they come out with a new design--I'd be all over it.

This. It was easily the worst sounding of all the Universe models I have played.

There's probably enough used ones floating around that they probably don't sell these anymore.

It was a lot more variable than the older ones, I think (as was the norm for early '00 Ibanez guitars), because I've played a few monsters and a few dogs.

I'd be shocked if the UV was discontinued given that seven strings seem pretty well entrenched these days, but an update/refresh isn't impossible...

yeah, I saw the post over there, Rich is really reliable about all things Ibanez. So it looks like it is happening, but Drew is right they are probably doing an overhaul, Rich hinted at something like that elsewhere. Based on the fact that Vai is playing the burnt Universe live again, I can't see them getting rid of them all-together, well I wonder, a burnt UV model?.........

I'm sure there will be a new version, but your point about 7-strings being entrenched made me think. It's interesting how the originator of the modern rock 7-string is hardly associated with the instrument anymore. That may be something of a factor. Does Vai's name really sell many 7-stringers to djent kids?
