Checked out a Dean RC7X today

Always been a tiny bit, morbidly curious about these.
I was at one of our GCs today and I saw it hanging on the wall. The Korean model($799usd). Was expecting it to be a total piece of shit but I was actually quite surprised. Played great for an out-of-the-box GC set-up. Could have used a bit of tweaking for my tastes but I got a good feel for it. Didn't bother to plug it in. EMGs... meh. I'm sure it sounds like any other guitar with EMGs.
The jumbo frets mixed with the UBER thin neck felt great to me. Awesome upper fret access too.
My only real complaints were the ridiculous headstock, of course. I'd hate to see the 8 string version in person. The one on the 7 was HUGE!
The fretboard looked to have a clear coat on it. Felt a bit "sticky".
But other than that, didn't seem too bad. I even kind of liked the graphic.
If it were a $500 or lower guitar, I'd probably look at snagging one and figure out some way to re-shape that fucking abysmal headstock.

I played the 7 & 8s at NAMM. I wanted to hate them, but they really surprised me by how nice they were.

Yeah, if it were just a bit cheaper.
The one I saw was at the Tukwila GC, BTW.

I just can't believe how absurdly thin the necks are. I kept feeling like my fingers and thumb were going to touch through the fingerboard.

I played a USA version once--the neck was amazing.

We have one at our GC too, the setup is horribly, but the neck and the hardware are legit.

I think the US ones have the same neck thickness at the 12th as they do the 1st. About 18.5mm which is a bit too thin for me. The Korean versions are apparently slightly thicker, I'm told.

The RC7X I got to play at GC awhile back didn't impress me. However, I may have been biased by the fact that the neck is way thinner than what I can play. It wasn't just that, though. The resonance wasn't all that great, and it just felt ultra-cheap--way more than your average LTD or Schecter.

Since Rusty's an old codger like me now, I'm surprised his carpal tunnels haven't given up the ghost from years of playing uber-thin necks on his sevens and eights. Maybe he doesn't do string bends at all?
