Seriously, I had absolutely no intention of getting another guitar, but after feeling a little disenchanted with my Ibanez SA (great guitar, just not what I was looking for) I was cruising eBay and found this little fucking beauty!
It just fits what I was looking for perfectly. It's classic, sexual, but awesome. I've always wanted a guitar that is non-genre specific. You can play blues, metal, rock, funk, anything on a classic V and it won't look out of place.
This particular model is an early 90's Epiphone, but the first owner put a Gibson truss rod cover on it.
Just something to note - this has got to be the nicest set up 2nd hand guitar I've ever got. Usually people haven't cleaned the fretboard or changed the strings in about 2 years, neck is warped, pickup height is wrong, bridge is all fucked and set up badly - but no this is the shit. Everything down to the fretwork (which I assume he has had dressed/levelled recently because DAT ACTION. Especially for a classic old V).
It plays way faster than I expected it to. It's a shred machine. I've played flying V's in the past that made me just want to put them down because they had clumsy playability, but this thing rips!
Pickups and electronics were changed by previous owner recently too so it's as good as new. 'Tonerider' brand pickups. Very nice. Very tight and punchy, but have a classic open feel also.
I can't stop playing thrash and classic rock on it man, this is the happiest I've been in a long time with a frivolous purchase They usually turn out to be a bit meh, but this is just fun fun fun guitar! Stoked!
