I got this guitar when I was 14 years old.
When I moved out of my folks house a few years back my mum moaned at me about leaving a ton of shit in the garage. Amongst which was the guitar...
(that's not my actual one, but the best pic I could find)
It's a Marlin Sidewinder. Marlin are an old UK company that haven't existed in fucking years. They made mainly budget strats, but some MiK ones (such as mine) and were half decent.
Anyway, I didn't really care what happened to it at the time, so it got passed on to my nephew who wanted to learn to play.
I happened to ask my sister about it today, and she said it's just been under his bed ever since, and that he doesn't touch it. I went and got it, and it was in a total fucking state
10 year old strings (no exaggeration, maybe even older), finger grime you could stick a butter knife into, rusted hardware, and a shitty painting of a dragon my ex scrawled on it all them years ago.
So I took it apart, fired up my dremel with various cleaning attachments and cleaned the shit out of everything, even the bridge saddles and screws, pots, machine heads, washed off the painting with minimal damage...
Unfortunately I think the electronics have had it (they weren't really up to much anyway). Sadly, so has the neck (well, the frets at least). And I forgot, at 16, I tried to reshape the headstock and made a right pigs ear of it.
So what I've got left is a really nice naturally relic'd strat body and hardware. All it needs is a new neck and a ready-loaded scratchplate, and I've got a half decent guitar - a high percentage of which was my first ever!
Will take pics as and when I get parts.
I would have loved to get my first back...But it had a cracked headstock/neck so..yeah.. Closest thing to that I DID get back was the H207 my gf bought me for my B-day back in 08 and I had to pawn to get my son a b-day.
