so, this is my first NGD in a long fucking time, and the first one I'm posting online...
The story behind this acquisition is that I was just sick and tired of only having trem-equipped guitars, making it impossible to detune on the fly. So, after years of playing lightweight shred machine whammy bar guitars, I decided to man up and get a huge slab of wood with a fixed bridge.
I was actually dead set on the Epiphone Thunderhorse, but then I found this guitar used for a considerably cheaper price. And since I've always had a soft spot for Ibanez and always distrusted Epiphone, the Destroyer seemed like the way to go.
Alas, I give you the Ibanez Destroyer DTT 700...
I don't think it would be justified to review a guitar I just received 3 hours ago, but my first impression so far is pretty good. It's sturdy, pretty heavy, yet not as heavy as I expected. I stringed it up with 12-60 gauge D'addario strings in Drop A# (I really dislike the tuning, but hey, that's what my other band plays, so whatever.) and that was about it. Action and intonation were pretty spot on sans a few cents. The bridge is one of those huge 80s style fixed bridges, which I personally enjoy.
Threw some security locks on it, however one of the screws is too loose.
The pickups are D-Activator X pickups, and I'm still trying to figure out if i like them or not. Loved the normal D-Activator, but these are differently voiced.
Overall I'm quite happy right now, but I'll have to wait until the honeymoon phase wears off to have an honest opinion. The only "negative" thing I can say right now is: my back fucking hurts after playing standing up for a while. I guess it's time to throw in some shoulder exercises from now on.
Nice score! Always wanted one of those!
