The last piece I've been waiting sooo impatiently for finally got here today, so I got to gettin'.
- Q-Parts mini Black Pearl Abalone Dome Knobs
- D'addario beta XL Formula 3 strings
- Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon trembucker
- Hipshot Locking Tuners with UMP bracket -- Thanks Elysian!!
While I had it all apart, I went ahead and polished it up and oiled the fretboard. Then after I had it all put together, I decided to wipe the fingerprints that I put all over it during assembly before taking the after pictures.
And lucky me, I grab my dust rag by mistake and get a nice layer of dust BACK on the fucking thing and right back in the nooks and crannies!
This is by all means, still a work in progress. I've got more ideas.. One being eventually doing something about the bridge. Although it looks like hell, it still works great. Eh, I'll figure it out. Anyway...
Knobs: I was a little weary of getting the mini dome knobs, because the originals were fat boys, but I think they turned out looking decent. A lot better than the originals. As you can see in one of the pictures, the black had rubbed off a lot. And no matter how many coats of black Sharpie I put on them, it just kept rubbing off.
Screamin' Demon: I am very pleased. I really liked the original pickup, but it kept spazzing out so much that, after replacing all the wiring and pots and still having it happen, I was fed up with it.
D'addario strings: They're ok. I get the feeling I'll be replacing these sooner than I had hoped. Maybe it's just me... I guess I'm just used to Elixir's.
Hipshots: I'm insanely pleased with these! The original tuners looked like hell and were starting to fall apart. And the jerkoff who previously owned this guitar, for some reason left off a couple washers when putting them back in and broke the peg/insert off of the high E, so it would constantly need to be tightened down on a paper shim in order to keep it from spinning.
All in all, I'm a happy camper.
