    NGD- Explorer Project Completed

Hey guys...completed a new project over the weekend. This was originally an Epiphone '84 Explorer that had the hardware and electronics removed. The body was in great shape and the neck was perfect. I didn't want to do the original black-on-black scheme, it was too Hetfield for my taste. Originally I was going to sand it down and refinish it in faded cherry red, but the finish was still in great shape so I left it as is (although the photos make it look grainy). I decided to make it look like something out of the 70's with refined classic rock stylings. The hardware came from Warmoth and the pickups are Seymour Duncan SH-5 Bridge and SH-2 neck. I set this up to C# standard since I wanted a guitar that could handle stoner metal and heavy blues. The pickup choices were perfect for the sound I was after. Thick, warm, and heavy. Yeah it still says "Epiphone" on the headstock but all in all, a great player for around a $300 total investment. Hope you guys like it.

Interesting switch placement without the pickguard.

When these Epiphone '84 models came out, a lot of people were skeptical because they didn't follow Gibson's specs for that year, but instead had an uncanny resemblance to James Hetfield's ESP Explorers from the late 80's/early 90's, including the switch placement. If you google pics from the Black Album era, you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys!
