So after the re fret on my axe, it needed a new nut ( I cracked the bone nut removing it ).
originally I wanted to use a floyd nut, and had modified one to use. However, everyone told me to get a reg nut. I ended up going with bone and was happy, until I decided to try my original plan. after I re fretted, I put the floyd nut on. String it up, plugged in, and fuck yeah this sounds way better to me. The guitar is so much more clear sounding and sustain is forever!
My question is, what other materials sound this good? Brass nut?
Here's my setup now
Hey if it works for you great. I'd be hesitant to use a locking nut sans locking pads as there is way too much lateral play for my tastes and it may start messing with various things and maybe acting like a sitar bridge. If you dig the sound though maybe a brass nut would be ideal for you but personally I can't tell the difference between most materials except in their tuning stability. I always replace broken nuts with graphteq XL's as they work fine for my needs.
