I blame you guys entirely, seeing all the recent posts about Eclipses made me decide to go buy one. Thankfully the secondhand market is flooded with them here at present so they were cheap and plentiful.
One thing that IS good about Australia for buying gear is we get the ESP Export lines so Gibson and Fenders lawsuits don't cover here. What that means is we get the original, PROPER Eclipses and the ones with only 3 knobs and the shallow cutaway are actually known as USA Eclipses. Then on top of that there are 3 different variants of the originals, the Eclipse I (Modern slim body with 3 piece neck and tummy cut, vintage style pickups and hardware), Eclipse II (Modern slim body with 3 piece neck and tummy cut, modern style pickups and hardware) and Eclipse CTM (Full vintage spec full thickness body with one piece neck).
So I grabbed me an Eclipse CTM in distressed honeyburst. This thing is now My official favourite guitar. The sustain is RIDICULOUS! The thick body is resonant as hell and the neck is a wonderful rounded profile topped with flat crown frets a la Gibson. All the best points of a Les Paul without the god awful Gibson quality.
I'll upload some nicer pictures tomorrow when I grab my camera out but here's some that at least show what it's all about.
Side profile of the body thickness, a full 55mm.
These are typically pretty kickass guitars. Happy NGD!
