I saw this on eBay last night, a local sale with collection only, which put it at a good price. I figured I'd grab it. I don't think I'll keep it for long, as I really don't have much call for that low string, but I figured I'd treat myself to something new as a little treat.
It's in pretty much mint condition, save for one scratch on the top-side. Difficult to capture in today's weird light (and with my new, 'bowler hat grey' feature wall darkening the room ).
After playing it for 30 minutes, I'm really unsure what use I'll have for it. I don't really think any, but I'll hang on to it for a few days, see what I make of it. At the very least, I can make a mix test thread with it. Maybe do one of those fantastic mime-through videos, where I include whimsical shots of me miming in he garden, and seemingly playing with the lightest touch ever! The song will obviously be minor key i - vi.
I expected to not like the feel of it for playing leads, but it actually feels pretty nice. It has 9 - 42 for the higher 6. Unsure what's on the lower strings, but they don't feel too heavy. I don't mind the pickups, either. But I can't really hear a difference between most pickups that can't be accounted for by adjusting the amp's EQ. I also can't really hear a difference between actives and passives. But I'm really not one for caring about those kind of details, anyway. So long as a guitar's comfortable to play, I don't really care.
You could tune it like a seven with an extra high "a" string... You might be able to get more use from the high string than an extra low one.
