I acquired this guy two days ago and I must say for a $400 Chinese made LTD I am really impressed with the quality. It came with a Seymour Duncan Nazgul in the bridge pickup which sounds pretty decent. The pickup configuration on Stephen's signatures seem hit or miss depending on the player. I couldn't gel with the SCT607B that I bought off of RGHoarder because of the pickup placement but on this guitar it doesn't bother my picking hand at all. A solid budget 8 string for sure.
Pros: Lightweight, balanced and resonant. I'm pretty sure it's a basswood body and maple bolt-on neck. I prefer bolt-on's so this is a plus rather than his through neck models. The 25.5" scale can surprisingly handle my drop E tuning (EBEADGBE). I barely see a difference compared to my 27" TAM10 after a proper set up. Also the 25.5" scale makes it easy to navigate... I've tried a 30", 28.5", 27" and now a 25.5" and I can say that the 27 and 25.5 are ideal for me.
Cons: Hardware. The stock ESP tuners and bridge need to go. I'll be replacing them with black Hipshot hardware. I'll also be replacing the volume and tone knobs with black ones. The fretwork is decent, I felt a couple sharp ends here and there but nothing crazy. Hopefully down the road I can swap these pickups with black DiMarzio Ionizers being that that I'm not much of a fan of active pups.
Overall I'm pretty pleased after jamming on it for two days now. This is a great backup 8 to my TAM10.
That's a lot of strings.
