What's your favourite tone wood for guitar body?

I personally don't have a real preference, I love certain things about different types of woods. Very subjective I know, but I just want to know if any of you have a favourite and why.

My opnion is based on different guitars from each type of wood and the differences noticed that were consistent to the respective type of wood. Of course guitars rarely sound exactly the same but I found some common qualities to each, of course in a high-gain sound.

    - Alder is tight sounding and has a lot of punchy attack but not so much depth, very light
    - Mahogany is a bit similar with a grainier attack and sound, richer and thicker than Alder
    - Basswood is tonally the most tonally complex of the 3, the frequencies are all over the place so it sounds rich but give it the wrong EQ and it will sound either thin or overbearing

The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "No. ― Alan Moore

I voted for Mahogany (I've owned 3-4 guitars with Mahogany bodies), but I really like basswood too and right now I only have 1 guitar with a Mahogany body and 3 with basswood bodies.

I never really preferred any specific wood. Just as long as the guitar sounds good to my ears, it can be made out of plastic for all I care. Though when building up something like a Warmoth, I tend to lean towards alder or ash.

I'm another vote for "whatever sounds good". I have a chambered swamp ash Tele and a mahogany/maple PRS SE245, both sound great. As long as it has snap in the right places, and resonates nice and loud, I'm happy.

Man, alder or basswood. I like bright, so alder is right up my alley. Equally awesome with neck thru or bolt on.
