Obligatory artsy/trendy "partially lighted on a couch/bedspread" shots (completely unPhotoshopped/unfiltered because I'm a troglodyte):
And here's some in normal lighting so you can actually see the guitar:
Supposedly, these are (or were?) made in the Edwards factory. So, here it is next to it's LTD Elite younger brother:
So, I've always wanted one of these since I saw them on Ikebe years ago. Ishibashi was having a 10% off all used guitars sale for the holidays, so I jumped on it.
First of all, Jason at Ishibashi was a pleasure to deal with, and I highly recommend getting in touch with him if you want anything from their website. Also, EMS shipping is insanely fast. From Shibuya, Japan to my office in midtown NYC in just over 24 hours.
This is a MIJ Schecter SD-II-24, also known as a Tom Schecterson. 24 frets, basswood body with maple cap and insanely quilted maple veneer (seriously this thing glows in sunlight).
H/S/H Schecter-branded Tom Anderson-style large-polepiece pickups with coil tap switch and a push/pull pot on the tone control that does something to the top end (not really sure what exactly, but it can add presence or make the guitar sound a bit less harsh by engaging or disengaging it, depending on amp settings). Gotoh tuners and Schecter-branded Gotoh double-locking bridge (screws are a bit rusty, so I have replacements coming in to avoid stripping them out).
It sounds very Anderson-esque, as you might expect. The same kind of "hot, but open and balanced" character I got from guitars equipped with Anderson's hotter pickups, and the coil taps are quite Stratty, if a little on the thinner side. The neck profile is a bit wider and a bit chunkier and more V-shaped than the LTD Elite, and the frets are smaller, leading to a very Fendery feel (which I like quite a bit).
It plays very nicely, too, although flying from Japan to NYC in the winter has made the fret ends pop out slightly and it needs a setup to cure some buzz in the upper frets.
The only problem: Now I want to track down a 7-string version!
Hooooly fuck. That is gorgeous. Orange!
