Well it came down to a new in box Jackson SLATTX blah blah blah for $550 Canadian or the Ibanez 7620 from 1999 with D Activator Pick ups for $500.
Only did a visual inspection and quick check of natural harmonics in the parking lot.
Guitar is in great shape..... one ding on the body.
Plugged it in at home to check the volume tone and switches all worked.
Only weird thing I found is that if I strum the lowest (in terms of tone not position) string hard enough it rattles. The string is pretty darn loose so I can imagine that as it vibrates it hits some of the frets.
How do you fix that? Or is that normal for 7 strings I've never had one before.
The cover plate on the back for the tremolo system is missing so I will have to find one. I didn't think it was a big deal.
The case is not custom so it means the guitar is resting on the tip of the head stock. I am not cool with that so I will see if I can put a towel under the neck. You can see the body is resting on an angle as the points of contact with a flat surface are the tip of head stock and very end of the body of the guitar.
Overall I am pleased. The frets are in great shape in a few spots you can almost see a mark where people press on the strings but running my nail over it you can't even feel a depression.
Awesome grab! You made the right choice. DActivator 7's kick ass too. 7 strings have, in my experience anyways, always had buzz on the lowest string, but it's not normally audible when amplified. Cant wait to get my 7621 back from modification.
