Because they are all fucked up. Gibson took an archtop, made it of solid wood, then put it on the market. It's thick, heavy, doesn't balance well and is a bitch to play standing. If Lester got his own way with the design cues, it would have been made of solid maple with a smaller body and thinner but McCarty didn't want to stray too far from their conservative roots (that hasn't changed a bit) and a guitar at the Lep Pauls dimensions of solid maple would have been heavier than any norlin ever could have been.
