This concept is a bit foreign to me, I guess.
I was talking to someone about a Strat today and he mentioned, as one of the features, a custom relic job. He seemed vexed... that I didn't find any value in that.
Now this is just me, but I'm not going to pay extra for some dipshit to sand the corners off a guitar or scrape the paint with a pick, or whatever the hell, any more than I'm going to pay extra for the same douche to drill holes in the fender of a classic Mustang to encourage rust and body rot.
I get that guitars get dings and scrapes and wear - and folks find that sexy in classic guitars like older Strats. But when companies start making "relic'd" guitars (even just painting them to look that way) it's like buying jeans with factory holes in the knees instead of working the street corners and putting holes in the knees yourself.
Okay, rant over. Fuck. I don't feel any better.
