Scratching the itch for another one...

I'm glad I'm in good company here.

I've decided to give my jazz playing a break, so the jazz axes have gone downstairs and it's time to build up my metal quiver.

I scored a sweet Charvel Custom Shop off craigslist for a steal... and I have my eyes on a second guitar mostly for convenience sake because I end up playing in a bunch of different places and a backup is useful.

    Here's are my must haves:
    - 25.5" scale
    - 6 string
    - 2x passive humbucker
    - unfinished back of neck
    - under $700 (used OK)

Here are my nice to have:
    - neck through or seriously accessible neck joint
    - Duncan humbuckers (or some really nice PUs that don't need replacing)
    - 3 way switch (versus 5 way)
    - maple fretboard
    - instrument cable input on side (not front)

Given I have a Charvel style, I wanted to go a different direction. I was thinking about a MM Petrucci (I suppose I'd have to buy the Sterling version of some sort), EVH Wolfgang or an Ibanez of some sort. I'm attracted to the RG series and that Herman Li model (I think they have a cheap-o version now).

Anyway, I'm playing EVH/Eric Johnson/Metallica stuff and working on my chops.

Your suggestions (and even a helpful ebay link or two) would be sweet.

    You guys rock, thanks.

700 bucks will get you a great used guitar in any flavour, pick what ever one your visually attracted to most.

Yea there are a lot of great options out there for that budget. The only thing you may have a little hard to find is the maple fretboard but other then that, you should have no problem.

What about a jackson randy rhoads or king v?

Both have neck through options and Duncan humbucker(s) however not all models can be had for 700 used. But I think you might find a cheaper model that you like.

Never played the, but gassing for them.

Some king v and rr have maple neck.

Get a used RG550 You can get them for $500-$600 usually with the pickups swapped. The back of the neck is a satin finish, which is the best you will get out side of custom shops

Or for that money you can get another charvel from Japan that will sound pretty much the same so there is no changing of amp settings if you need to swap guitars mid set.
