I swapped pickups on a friends Les Paul today, and when I was finished and tried out the EMG 89 I instantly recognized that sound. I fucking love neck pickup sound on Les Pauls and similar! I remember having Paf Pro in some Les Paul copy that sounded absolutely amazing, so after I sold it I got a Paf Pro for one of my superstrats, which was NOT the same, it was far too "twangy" in comparison.
So, now I wanna get some fucking 24.75 scale guitar.
1. Explorer or something with better tuning stability than Les Paul. I had numerous problems with G-strings on Les Pauls because of string pull on headstock.
2. Not sure if I want a Floyd Rose or tune-o-matic bridge. The Floyd Rose would eliminate any issues with G-strings on a Les Paul, and floyded LPs are actually pretty cool. But so are floyded Explorers and Flying Vs!
3. I want it to be alpine white! Or at least pink or yellow or something like that. No sunburst, black or quilt maple top shit.
4. Should come stock with EMG 81/85, but I can do a pickup swap if really needed. The main attraction here is really that 85 neck sound, which is the most awesome bubbly sound in this scale length, and I love that stuff.
The proper file and some oil will solve that problem on a Les Paul too and of course NSLALP
