NGD / NPD - This is the MIJ Ibanez Destroyer - Huggy Bear Edition

I bought this little girl on Reverb a couple weeks ago. I've been gassing for a Destroyer for a while now. I almost regretted getting rid of the newer one I had last year... almost.

This is a 2002 Ibanez Destroyer - a reissue of the '96. Candy apple red, gold hardware, cream binding, but bolt-on unpainted neck that feels so much better than its Indonesian counterpart - profile is even different.

Two of the knobs were missing the rubber grommet sort of thing that adorns the top and one of them is cracked. I bought 4 in an eBay auction - the newer type - but because I like the older Japanese knobs (cracked or not) I ripped the rubber stuff off of the new ones and superglued them onto the old knobs.

The guitar has a couple of doinks on her here and there - frankly, I could give two glorious shits. She's a player this time, not a case queen.

I took her into Gear Exchange and had Jim polish/level the frets for me and set it up.

Now that my pickups have arrived (Evo and Breed), I'm going to install them and really turn this into a pimp machine. Pics before - after pics are coming.

And these are what we're putting in:

All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

Oh fuck yes. My tech has one of these in gun metal grey and it's such a good guitar. Why can't modern guitars be like the early 90's guitars?
    ^ probably sarcasm.

You just have to put a third humbucker in the middle position to REALLY pimp it out. That was the iconic guitar of my budding teenage era, before I even knew anything about anything about guitars. Sweet ride!

Love Destroyers. Had quite a few over the years. The 2002 reissues are cool. KK Warslut (D666 is one of the greatest bands ever, with the greatest stage names ever) has a couple that have been modded to Phil Collen esque specs that look cool as fuck.
