Looking for a good Drop D sounding metal guitar for 300-500

Hey all, pretty new to this site, in fact this is my first post. As the title states im looking for a guitar around the 300-500 mark for playing mostly Heavier stuff(I plan to have it in Drop D most of the time)I already have a guitar with a floyd rose that i keep for standard tuning so i just want something i can pick up and switch tunings on to play around.

I was looking at a few guitars so far and a few have caught my eye, Namely the Jackson J32T Kelly, it seems like a good guitar for the price. Anyone have any suggestions, would love a second opinion.

    I'd go for the RG421 or S521.

The jackson is solid. Its mahogany so something like a Dimarzio EVOII or Dominion or an SD SH5 Custom would get you a great grind for a few bucks.

Ibanez SZ320. Neck through, mahogany body/neck. These things are built like tanks and sound pretty damn good, I've seen them used for $125 on Craigslist. They were $500 new, so you can find them used on the cheap for sure.

something used! Any guitar can drop D, there are a ton of nice hard tails out there. Go for something around $700-1000 new, should come in around 500, more for your money, just watch out for fret wear. A little is ok. I have always been a big fan of strung thru guitars.
Play it before you buy it,

In no order what so ever:
    Epiphone Les Paul
    Ibanez RG Premium
    Jackson Dinky
Ibanez V VBT700 I just discovered this, if you can find one, get one, they rippppp, the necks feel amazing, like a wizard 1 neck, come with Dimarzio D Activators! Sells pretty cheap used. Neck Thru mahogany

sadly someone swapped out the pickups on this one, and they probably aren't even better than D Activators

A lot of good suggestions here. Mostly, find a solid, well-built hard tail on the used market.

The Ibanez VBT700 is a good V and the D-Activators do rock. You can pick them up on the used market for 400-500 if you can find them.
Ibanez RG421 or the like is also a good choice.

I also happen to like some Schecters and if you don't mind the weight, a Schecter Hellraiser in either Solo or C might be a good choice for you. The C is lighter. Many models have locking tuners and string-through mahogany bodies. Most come with a Tusq nut and the price on the used market is often within the range you quoted. Look for the Korean ones.
All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

Just keep an eye out on the used websites, especially if you have a musicgoround near you. Reverb is really good to purchase on. I've bought and sold on there recently with great success.

    and obviously craigslist.

I think these kickass, I"ve seen them go cheaper on craiglist
