    New Strat Day!

I've been thinking about getting a strat for a while now, so when I saw this pop up for a nice price I thought I'd have a go. It's a MIJ Tokai AST-50, with Kent Armstrong pickups (Classic Vintage-set) and a pickguard that reminds me a bit of some other famous pickguard. It's made out of alder, maple neck, rosewood fretboard etc. I usually don't like gold hardware, but think it looks great on this one (i.e. not too gaudy).

It arrived on Monday, so I've already had some time to try it out and have to say I'm really happy with it. The sound of a strat's neck pickup is just something I really love. Maybe I'll have to swap the single-sized humbuckers in my RG760 for the Tokai's stock pickups that came along with the guitar.

Here's a video of me butchering Little Wing and a bit of Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter (aka Little Wing rip-off).

Aside from that horror show of a pickguard that looks awesome.

Excellent-looking strat, man. I love that finish. Happy NGD!

Update: Ignore the haters. The pickguard rocks.
All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

Be careful, that pick guard will slow your recording progress to a snails pace.

Black pearloid can look okay on the right guitar.

This is not the right guitar for that pickguard. At all.
