A local high-end Seattle store got a bunch of lower end "metal" guitars in on trade and wanted them gone so my buddy picked these up for next to nothing and passed them off to me as sort of a birthday present.
The 8 string(Ibanez RGA8) is cooler than I expected. Plays great! I have a regular RG8 that I dig and don't really use much but I'm not going to complain about having another. I do like having "pairs" of guitars. lol. Pickups have been swapped with some Duncan Blackouts, I think. Looking forward to messing around with the FX Edge bridge(or whatever it's called).
The Ibanez FRM100 Gilbert sig is what I was REALLY interested in. I'm into quirky guitars and this fits that bill. Plays and sounds fantastic! Super beefy neck which surprised me for a Paul Gilbert sig. Really light weight too. The reverse angled pickups really make a difference in the tone for single coils. Nice and chunky with a hint of that strat "quack". And the tone and volume knobs come reversed from what you would think for some reason. Have to rectify that a.s.a.p!
Anyway, time to strip them down and take care of the dry-as-fuck fretboards. Just because you live in Seattle doesn't mean you don't have to oil your damn boards!
