The neck is for a strat I'm building for a friend, and the body is for another friend I'm building a superstat for for (he is one of the Warmoth necks I made a thread about...)
The strat body is visually very good, almost as good as my Warmoth strat body.
A little more orange peely, but that's okay. Even my Warmoth has orange beely finish at spots! But I didn't even mention it in my Warmoth thread even tho I noticed it immideatly
Too bad it has a flood of finish in the neck pocket.
The Hosco neck doesn't fit at fucking all, but these are not going to be screwed together anyway.
I will wait until my Warmoth necks are back from "repair" and see how things go.
I do have another Warmoth neck at the moment, and that one fitted perfectly, even with finish.
Then we have the HOSCO STRAT NECK OF PERCEPTIVE HORRORS!
Just two seconds after pulling the neck out of the box I was screaming "what the fuck!!!".
The finish on the back has some "sharp" dots all over it, but that can be fixed with some additional polisihing.
Just eyeballing the fret crowning, they actually look good!
Almost as good as my Warmoth necks I've receieved over the years.
That means that it might be possible to have a quite low action without buzzing or bend-outs.
That can't be 100% sure before it's assembled, but I hope and am sure its going to work!
Fret ends are not too beveled (like my new Warmoth disasters!) so there will be plenty of room for the strings to not slip off.
The tuner holes was advertized as 10mm, but that's not true. It's 10mm, but the back of the neck has a 8mm hole, so it has to be rasped up to proper hole size for his tuners.
The images tells it all!
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS!
I wouldn't buy a finished Hosco body, if they all come with that finish flood.
I know it's fixable, but it's nothing I wanna do if I can avoid it (like ordering from Warmoth!)
However, I could absolutely think of getting a unfinished Hosco body for a cheap and fun project. A new unfinished alder strat body goes for like $85, so that's totally worth it if doing a fun project.
However, I'm not 100% sure I would buy a Hosco neck; while the frets look even and all, there's a lot more to it that I dont like. Of course, I prefer stainless frets, 10-16" compound and a double action truss rod so that's nothing I would ever get from Hosco or other cheaper brands, so I think for necks I'll be exclusive to Warmoth, and maybe Musikraft/USACG if I wanna try something else.
But looks aside, it's probably a nice neck!
