I think I'm developing a fetish for satin finish necks. Yesterday I caught myself stroking a Squire Strat with a satin neck. Feels nicer than my MIM Fender Strat with traditional glossy finish.
Do you guys have a preference?
Thumbs up for necks like JP60 or Wolfgang Special.
Is there a way to check the finish on a guitar? When I look at Specs and descriptions often it's not mentioned?
Is it expensive to have someone remove the gloss on your guitar?
Is it easy enough to do on your own?
Would it be better to buy say a satin finish fender neck and have it installed?
Would you explore those possibilities or just buy a guitar with the neck that you want.
You can use something like a flexible 3M sanding sponge(320 grit) to dull it down and give the feel of satin for a bit but after a while your hand will polish it back up. However, do that enough times the finish should eventually get sanded off then you can just oil the back of the neck.
