Not technically an NGD since it came in some weeks ago & I've just finished some work on it ..but I got this beauty (pretty much unplayed/mint!) off eBay for a great price. It's H-S-S, which along with H-S-H, is my fave pup config..
Had some uneven frets and a bit of back-bow in the neck, probably from being kept stringed/up to pitch in storage for ages. Anyway, after some fret levelling /truss rod adjustment I was able to completely get rid of the back bow/buzz!
It came with a Duncan SH-14 (Custom 5) in the bridge, Duncan Coolrails/Hotrails in the middle/neck respectively. This thing just sings! The pups are perfect and while the SH-14 is supposed to be pretty scooped in the mids (never tried one before) it sounds great in this guitar...as do the other two. Nice and fat/warm/juicy ...lots of sustain & sweet overtones..
The headstock is the pre-Fender aquisition "Jellybean" type that I actually prefer. Neck is nice and thin ..almost Ibanez Wizard thin, with an oil rubbed finish... (aka ..greased lightning )
Overall a killer sounding, playing & looking guitar. Sweet quilted cherry burst finish So... can't complain... $250 well spent
Here it is in action on youtube over a looped riff I recorded. Decided to do a little shredding tribute to a favourite (but criminally underrated & practically forgotten) band of mine ..Crimson Glory! Not trying to cop their licks or tone...just that classic vibe.. (uhm ..revved up a little )
(Rhythm Loop = gtr & drms ..no bass) plugged straight into my 50 Watt solid state head (AMT Stonehead)...tiny bit of delay/reverb in the FX loop..that's it. No pre/post production. One stereo track w/the solo overdubbed. Recorded with my digital handheld recorder's line input. Feel free to like/hate/bitch about..
