A customer brought in this Gibson for a set-up last week. As I had it on the workbench I realised that my Vintage V100 sitting over in the corner is a direct replica
I just thought it was a cool photo opportunity, since they look so damn similar but are at least £2k apart in price.
For anybody interested, it's a R9 Custom Shop 1959 reissue. HUGE neck. The previous owner had installed some custom-wound PAF-type pickups in, I forget the custom shop that did it, but it's one of those ridiculous ones where it's like £300 per set.
The grade of timber used for either guitar is obviously different, but I genuinely objectively prefer the way the Vintage plays. It's got a nicer neck profile for one (I don't mind chunky necks but the V100 is 'just right' for me) and the frets are nice and huge (and I levelled and dressed them so they play beautifully). All things being equal (electronics, mainly) there's barely anything in it.
