I wired the Spectrum so that the middle position of the switch was the neck pickup, so that position 2 (or 4, depends on which way you are going) is neck and bridge and it sounds better for the kind of stuff I play than pretty much all the humbucker guitars I've ever had. The Explorer beats it in depth and overall quality, and it's a bit honky in the mids, but I'm probably switching to single coils on all non explorer guitars from now on. I get this whole super articulate Yngwie/Criss Oliva vibe playing them that I am absolutely in love with. The SAs are low output and alnico too, but I'm digging it. (Boosting of course) Bridge + Neck actually sounded better than bridge alone.
Dude, I recorded my previous bands EP entirely with EMG single coils, and it sounded monstrous. Very articulate, punchy, and clear. Great note fundamental too, really 'direct' tone.
