Epiphone Les Paul Standard vs. Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded

I've been wanting to pick up a Les Paul, and was thinking of either the Epiphone Les Paul Standard or the Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded. Obviously one is more affordable than the other, I was just curious if the Gibson was "worth" the extra coin for the upgrades and higher specs, or which one you would go for.

I picked up a 2012 Epiphone LP Custom Pro a little over a year ago in a trade and put some Gibson pickups in it. I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between my Eppy and a Gibson.

That being said, I've never owned a Gibson, just going off all the one's that I've played from stores and owned by friends.

I now own a satin finish guitar, and it's a pretty good time. The faded gets my vote here

I am pretty sure that in regards of sound and play-ability, the Epi is on par with the Gibson Studio Faded. But I am a snob, I simply would want it to be a Gibson.
I also really like the looks of the Faded, might get me one myself.

I'd hunt for a non-2015 used regular Studio.

For Epis there is a wiki out there that is very detailed and outlines the types of neck etc that the LPs have.

    The Unofficial Epiphone Wiki

I wasn't able to find the same type of resource for Gibson LPs. I think over the years the LP neck profile has changed so closer consideration should be made when looking at the year the Studio was made (if going used)

    ^ This -

An issue I ran into with the faded Les Paul was static electricity - running your hand up and down the neck created really ugly static that showed up fairly prominently in the signal. There are some who say it's because of the satin finish and the thin nitro, could be the electronics, etc., I'm not sure. But if I had to do it again, I'd get a regular studio rather than the faded.

Having said all of this, my Flying V faded finish has given me no problems at all.
All I can ask is that I suck a little less each time I pick up my guitar...

I've had a couple early 90s Studios over the years that were killer guitars.. especially when I got them for $600... that is my recommendation. There were a couple years where you could even get ebony boards - my last '92 had one. The only reason I sold it was because I'm playing bass 95% of the time now.
