What guitar would you use if joining wedding/function/covers band?

I don't mean an actual specific model, I just mean what type out of the typical 3 - Les Paul (or 2-hum short scale equivalent, SG, Explorer etc), Strat, or Tele? Or something else?

Basically I'm thinking of becoming a hired gun in the area. There's an awful lot of dep work for function bands around here that pays really well, but I've only got typical rock/metal trem'd guitars which are all detuned and set up for the music I write/play in my metal band.

I guess versatility is key - with a LP you've got coil tapping as an option if you do any funk or anything like that, and with a strat you can add stacked humbuckers etc. Which way would you prefer to do it? Get one of each?

If you can hack the shite they are playing this is very lucrative indeed. Some of these bands are absolutely robbing folk for weddings etc. Good money if you can get it and if you are going to get it I would say get yourself both a LP and a Strat.

I've been to a fair few weddings over the last few years and generally what I see the guys using are PRS if thats any help.

I'd probably go for a LP and a Strat, should cover most things. Maybe an electro acoustic as well?

If you get in a semi successful wedding band you can have whatever and as many guitars as you want anyway. The few people I know who play in them have an outrageous selection of guitars.

Yeah, the singer in my metal band plays bass in a function band, they get paid a fucking stupid amount of money per gig... but then you gotta weigh that up against playing the sort of drivel that people want to hear Still, if I can get a good thing going it still beats the daily grind.

I play in a function band each weekend, I play an RG550. Wired it up with Bare Knuckles with a 5 way and a coil split and it handles everything I've chucked at it, plus sometimes I can chuck in the odd dimebag whammy squeal. Used to use a PRS SE CU24 which was almost as versatile.

Seriously, Why not a typical Strat? You can place Single Sized humbuckers anywhere and it has the the classic look of a guitar that can play anything. The LP visually is more rock oriented.
