Um, it's stained and oiled. None of the "sticky" clear finish you get with 'traditional' painted necks.

Too much focus leads to tunnel vision
Too much faith leads to religion
Too much knowledge leads to confusion
Too many guitar lessons lead to jazz-fusion

Anyone else notice that this is labelled as "June 09" on the front page?

Yeah I noticed that too.

Very nice guitar, why did you decide to keep the killswitch red though? I would've painted it to match the rest of the guitar. You do know you can pop off the red button part from the black base without damaging it, right?

Thumbs up

I'm new here, this actually my first post. After viewing the down right and absolute godliness that is this guitar I had to join. I've seen designs similar to this but this one annihilates them all. Bravo.

Anyhow on to my question...

Right now I am in the prep stages of putting together a guitar from a handful of spare Ibanez parts (RG Body, an edge, and a few Dimarzios I pulled out of my old Jackson XTRR before I sold it) and I have to know: how can I get my neck to look like that? Josh stated above that it was stained and oiled and I was curious what kind of stain would achieve that look?

This may be a dumb question but I have looked around and haven't found anything definitive on the topic. Any help would be great, thanks guys.

Thanks, man!
I just used the Minwax Decorator stain. The color is black onyx. I think I did like 3 or 4 coats to make it really dark and then I did about 4 coats of tung oil over it.

It looks amazing. Does it still have the fast smooth feel of a satin neck?

Yep! The key is to go over it with very fine steel wool between every coat all through the tung oil. But not too much.
