Ok, so I'm having a guitar built for me in the new year. 27 frets, 6 string (obv), hipshot bridge, and 26" scale. The problem I'm having is that I'm not sure how much room I'll have for 2 humbuckers. I HATE (read: REALLY FUCKING HATE!) middle position pups, so having to play directly over a pickup TOTALLY out of the question. i also REALLY want to get a single coil neck sound for cleans, but I don't know how I'd get along with single coils in the neck for lead stuff.
Basically, I can either get a coil tap-able humbucker and live with less picking space, sacrifice frets for more picking room, or get a single coil sized pup in the neck position. if i could find a 4-conductor single sized bucker for the neck, that sounds good for my uses, that'd give me everything I need. the problem is I've never heard one.
I know of the JB jr, lil' 59', and hot rails. But all the demos I can find are done with shitty amps, webcam mics and fender strats. Nothing against strats, but my guitar will NOT sound like one, so pretty much all those demos are moot.
Does anyone around here have clips they can share of those stacked singles, or good metal leads done on single coil neck pups? Anything like that would help me a LOT.
Andy Timmons uses a Cruiser in the neck.
