So, as some of you may have seen, Lyle sold me his LTD H-401FM. It's a gorgeous guitar, and the stock neck pickup (a Jazz) is fantastic; much brighter than what I've previously heard of neck pickups, and able to do cleans and lead tones equally beautifully. But (and I'm not the only one who thinks this), the stock Custom 5 is aural diarrhea; all mids and no bite.
So, I'm going to leave the Jazz in there, as it does sound great, but the Custom 5 is going. I'd rather stay with Seymour Duncan for the replacement as they're fairly cheap, and they're kept as a matched pair that way. What are the bridge models to look out for? I'm looking for something with mid-output. It'll be used for nothing heavier than Porcupine Tree or Opeth; something a little looser than normal, as I'll have my RG7 for anything nun-like in terms of tightness. It'd be great if it were well-matched with the Jazz in terms of output. In terms of voicing, I'm looking for something that's sweet in the mids and highs, and able to cool things down for less abrasive tones from time to time.
