Okay, so I've got a basswood project body coming in and I need opinions on neck pickups. My main shredder (Mahogany body Ibanez RGT) is equipped with a Seymour Duncan TB-5 Custom, and TB-2 Jazz, and they sound pretty damn good. (Don't know why I stuck with EMGs for so long................)
I did some poking around and I'm a little worried i might be missing out if I just get another set of the same pickups. From what I've heard (from the comparison clips on SD's website) I really dig the tone of the JB in the bridge and will likely go with that, but the the jury is still out on the neck pup.
The jazz is cool, and coil splits nicely, and I've heard good reviews on the '59, but it's not splittable and I'm worried about mud. Listening to the clips on SD's site doesn't really yield a yes or no for me either way, so I'm not sure what to do here.
I know Michael Amott (of Arch Enemy) used the JB/'59 set in his signature ESP up until he moved to Dean and they made him new ones, and I've always been a fan of their tones. Still tho, very on the fence.
This is where I need you guys. I need opinions on duncan neck pups. How is the JB/'59 combo? Are there any other neck pickups I am missing out on? POST CLIPS!!!
I will be using this guitar mainly for solos and "whoop-whoop"-ing. No smooth jazz or anything like that.
Guitar Specs! (for reference)
The JB/59 combo likes mahogany MUCH more than it likes basswood, in my experience.
