Can anyone give me a hand figuring this out? I'm trying to wire my CL/LF set into my guitar. Everything went smoothly but and everything SEEMED in order when i touched the poles with an allen wrench. However, when I plug the guitar in after stringing it up, the output of the bridge pickup is EXTREMELY low both in coil split and humbucker modes. The neck pickup is fine.
To compound my annoyance, this guitar is a front routed guitar with a pickguard and a floyd. Taking apart and putting it back together is gonna be the death of me.
I've heard of testing it with a multimeter, but I don't really know HOW to do that. I'm gonna take a stab at it while this thread sits and hope for a reply sometime soon.
I used the wiring diagram provided by Darren in my last wiring thread, just using the dimarzio color code. I don't see what could be going wrong. if all else fails I'll pull everything off the pickguard and take pics for you guys.
Another thought that comes to mind is is a dead pickup, and I hear it happens sometimes. If I can't get anything else to work I'll try wiring the pickup directly to the jack and see if that prompts any better results.
i'd just pop off the pickguard and tweak it before you put it back and try it again.
you can tap the pup with something to hear it and see if its working better as you tweak.
A tv remote is good for that(it picks up the sound when your clicking so you can compare the sound of the neck to the output of the bridge without having strings on)
