Kind of the same discussion as None More Black's question on Which guitars Which pickups. I have a USA standard BC Rich Beast. I have an EMG set, but it's leaving me wanting more bite and dynamic feel. The low end chug is nice, and I love the squealing pinch harmonics, but it seems all at one level.....anyways, it is a maple neck through with a rosewood fingerboard. I will likely put a Duncan Distortion in it, since I have had one in my charvel and it was really good. Actually, it's going back in the charvel next week.
However, has anyone tried the BKP Aftermaths on a neck through? Mine has poplar wings. I wonder how it will sound. Acoustically, the guitar has a hollow kind of sound and I am worried that it is trait of these maple neck thru's
Dude, the Distortion will make you very happy in that. Poplar is extremely similar in both tone and weight to alder, and having recently played a maple thru with alder wings guitar plus Distortions, I can say go for it. It's instant metal. And not scratchy, super tight treble metal, it's full, thick-mids, agressive treble, warm pummeling metal, al la Cavalera Conspiracy's new album, and Anthrax's new album, and Gus G's work. I could go on. I'll just leave you with this: Ola uses Distortions.
Just for the record though, since we're on the topic of BC rich Vs and pickups, the all maple Kerry King V with EMGs sounds ridiculously brutal. Totally Slayer feel.
